Beware - local cosmetic producers have switched to another equally dangerous chemical called hydroquinone - to give women a fair and unblemished look, reported the Star this week.

Known locally as susuk emas or golden needle, this chemical is sold through several beauty houses in Malaysia.

Another chemical Azelaic acid which is used to treat severe acne and acne vulgaris, could cause health complications, severe skin damage including skin cancer.

Please do read the product label, but then again, with fly by night companies, what's on the label may not necessarily be in the bottle and what's in the bottle, may not be on the label.
